Brand Detection: How is OtterlyAI detecting Brands in AI Responses?

When you create an OtterlyAI account and set up a Brand Report, OtterlyAI automatically monitors all related search prompts and compiles key insights into your brand reports.

OtterlyAI identifies brands mentioned in AI responses and provides specific KPIs within your brand report. In the Brand Report Settings, it’s crucial to define:
  1. Your brand name (including any variations).
  2. Your competitor brand names (including their variations).
November 27, 2025: Brand Detection Update

On November 27, we enhanced our brand detection system for AI responses. This update improves the accuracy of tracking where and how a brand appears in responses from ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, and Copilot.

Previously, OtterlyAI relied on a brand detection algorithm to identify brands (e.g., products, company names, celebrities). As part of our ongoing improvements, we introduced a more efficient and streamlined brand detection system on November 27, 2025. The updated brand detection is primarily text based, meaning: we look for a brand name match based on text.

For example:

If you are Coca-Cola and you have defined the following brand names ("Coca Cola", "Coca-Cola") we look for an exact match of these words within the AI responses.
